Angry birds

The four main angry birds.

Birds are the enemies in the Bad Piggies franchise where their goal is to defend the eggs, but they are the protagonist in the Angry Birds series. In Bad Piggies, they will attempt to stop Ross Ross Pig at all costs by launching themselves, as seen in the Angry Birds levels. You must avoid them (either avoiding waking them, or via speed to escape them) in order to keep the vehicle remain intact or fast enough to reach the goal.

They appear as sleeping decorative (and later interactive) obstacles in Flight in the Night, where they are trying to stop Ross who has one of their eggs (really, a rock made by The Blues Blue.). They also appear in Tusk 'til Dawn (Red/Red), and in the later levels of The Road to El Porkado where they are attacking for an unknown reason (besides being woken). In both episodes, they start out asleep, but wake up to attack if you make too much noise.

They can be woken up and turn hostile by:

  • Propelling something noisy near birds, like a wheel, fan, propeller or engine
  • Using motors
  • Breaking something nearby (or even on top of the birds)
  • Rockets or TNT explosions nearby
  • Ram into the birds (a very bad idea, unless you have a strong cart or intend to push Ross to the destination; their angle can vary. Don't try this unless you know for sure that the pig will reach the goal.)

You can earn some achievements by the birds’ activity:

Birds can also be seen in almost unreachable areas, sleeping, as decoration objects in some levels before they appear as an obstacle (for example, Flight in the Night 4-10 with Bomb.). They don't move (or have a slingshot), and emit "Z" particles. If you manage to get to them, they aren't actually touchable, however. The Z's are also initially used before they wake up, exclaiming ! before shooting at the vehicle (or Ross).

AI System[]

Detection[]

Detection of birds is a main mechanism for them, if the birds is not on screen, the detection HUD will appear, anytime you activate the vehicle near the birds, the detection will increase, if you cease and deactivate the vehicle, the detection risk will be slowly cleared. Building lots of machine (and placing/moving Ross near them) or running the machine near birds cause the detection risk to increase faster. If detection risk is fully filled, the HUD turn orange, birds will be awake (!) and will launch themselves to attempt to damage the vehicle Ross is in, or shoot him (if applicable, King Pig as well).

AI Knowledge[]

Birds probably may have casual intelligence to serve as the oppositions while launching to your vehicles to make the gameplay casual, more enjoyable and immersive. Birds also can be intelligent in strategizing where to shoot and their timing.

Types Of Birds[]

Angry birds

The four Angry Birds seen in the game, compiled.

Birds have some types, following along with the Angry Birds game.

Red[]

Red doesn't have any powers and hits with moderate strength. He usually appears by himself. However, in some levels there are two Reds.

The Blues[]

Blues 240

The Blues in their natural form.

The blue birds (Jake, Jay, Jim) will launch themselves as one towards Ross as normal, but shortly afterwards will split into 3 birds like they do in Angry Birds. Though they don't hit with much force, they can still pack-a-punch and do more damage if all 3 hit your vehicle in once spot. (which is nearly impossible for metal vehicles, unless falling from the sky or hitting rocks.)

Chuck[]

Chuck will apply a speed boost shortly after launch, where he will rocket forwards to hit things more powerfully. He also seems to have predictive aim, (he aims where you are about to go so he doesn't hit the ground behind you), but it isn't very good. (a burst of vehicle speed may counter his own speed, or force the vehicle toward Chuck.) He is effective against wood, even the type that box crates are made of.

Bomb[]

Bomb

Bomb, in his natural form.

Bomb appears in one level, but only asleep. He doesn't appear in any levels as an enemy, but in prediction, he would probably launch himself towards you and explode, wrecking your vehicle disastrously. However, angry, sleeping, awake and launched faces for him appear in the game files.

Trivia[]

  • Bomb is the only bird to be an unused hostile bird. Although he never appears to attack, (thankfully) you can found Bomb sleeping when in-game on Flight in the Night episode. Bomb having unused attack sprites in the game files suggests that he was originally going to be one of the birds in some of the levels, but never did for some reason, probably gameplay balance issue.
  • Despite being in Flight in the NightTusk 'til Dawn, and The Road to El Porkado levels, they don't appear in any sandboxes, probably to make the sandboxes' concept work: build anything possible without impediment.
  • When the birds are awaken, they will not launch until Ross is in reach. If you get to the finish line before the birds are in reach of your vehicle, they can no longer launch.
